Biography: | Scottish writer John Galt (1779-1839) was an ambitious man, active in colonial trade and politics, while also writing historical novels, poems, and biographies of famous men such as Lord Byron an Benjamin West. His novel The Ayrshire Legatees (1820) and its follow-up Annals of the Parish (1821) brought critical and popular success for his historical fiction, which covered Canadian as well as English subjects. |
