Tao Te Ching-Authored by LAO TZU. The basic text (of 81 chapters) of TAOISM. A classic text of the Way and its power, and is a basic text for all Taoist teachings. The text emphasizes a spiritualized vision of immortality by refraining from non-acquisition, flowing with the natural forces of the universe, and being in harmony with life as it unfolds. See TAO/ TAOISM.

Templars or Knights Templar-A monastic, religious order of knights first formed around 1120 (at the end of the first Crusade) whose duties were to protect the route of the pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. They became associated with monarchies, and therefore became powerful, influential, and rich and many historians believe that they invented the banking system. In 1307, King Philip of France felt that they were threatening his power, and he eventually caused their demise, and of course, seized their money and assets. In 1314, the Grand Master of the Knights Templar was burned at the stake.
