Oblation-A RELIGIOUS contribution; the presenting of bread and wine to GOD in HOLY COMMUNION.
Odyssey-A long, challenging journey in search of ENLIGHTENMENT.
Offertory-The part of the EUCHARIST in which bread and wine are offered to GOD; the period of time during which offerings are given during a RELIGIOUS service.
Old Testament-The first portion (of two) of the CHRISTIAN BIBLE that describes GOD's COVENANT with the Israelites, and compiled between 1000 B.C. and 100 B.C., and contains the HEBREW SCRIPTURES. It is in four sections: the law, the books of history, the wisdom books, and the prophets. It is considered the sole source of RELIGIOUS authority in JUDAISM. Omen-A prediction of future good fortune or tragedy.
Omnipotent-Having unlimited power. All powerful. Sometimes thought of as GOD, but could be used to indicate a universal, all-powerful force or authority.
Omnipresent-Present everywhere at all times. Sometimes used to suggest God's presence.
Omniscient (Christianity) -Total knowledge. Usually referred to as God's all-knowing.
Oneness-The feeling of singular harmony, wholeness, uniqueness and completeness of SPIRIT.
Openness-Being receptive and responsive with all things in the universe.
Ordination-A CHRISTIAN sanctifying grace rite received upon joining the priesthood.
Orthodox-The "right teaching", or referring to the most traditional, conservative for of a RELIGION or DOCTRINE. Churches of this group include Russian, Serbian, Greek, and Armenian. See also BYZANTINE and RUSSIAN ORTHODOX Churches.
