Chapter 9

It's foolhardy to depend totally on luck for forming a fabulous relationship when you are dating online. However, you can do a lot of things right, and even more of them completely wrong. You should follow some simple guidelines if you are really keen on forming a real and romantic relationship.

Mistake #1: False Profile Make it a point that the picture you post is yours only, and not that of one of your beautiful friends. There is no harm in presenting yourself as you really are - not everybody in this world is a Madhubala or a Salman Khan. Don't resort to falsehood while writing your profile. If you are 5'3" don't make it 5'10" in the profile. If you do such things, it will only be a matter of time before you get caught!

Mistake #2: Lack of Punctuality When you fix a time to chat online or talk on the phone, be there and be there on time. Don't keep the other person waiting, if only to keep the relationship going. If you don't, chances are that the other person will lose interest in you and move elsewhere.

Mistake #3: Useless Conversation Try to make your conversations interesting and realistic. Don't irritate the other person by just joking around and making what you think "cute" remarks. Focus on common interests like music or films. You'll need to get around to talking about aims and values. Listen attentively to learn about his/her views on love, respect and commitment.
