Epilogue (The Trickery of Gilgrad Hemming, King of the Sons of Khenochia)

The armies of General Ibrahim Tonah were much less successful. According to reports, they were able to engage the first party (which, as previously mentioned, included Gilgrad Hemming as well as other notables) in a quick skirmish; they were unable to either capture or kill, the bulk of the men. This being a result of their "speedy flight". That is where the trouble started.

Gilgrad led his men down along the eastern seashore, following it south-east, passing by the ruins of Keh'Arnis on the Eastern side. They shortly abandoned the coast and proceeded due south. This was, according to Gilgrad, in the hopes of meeting up with one of the tribes that they knew to occupy that area. The traveled for some ways (Gilgrad's account, which we take to be most accurate, states it as "no more than seven or eight miles", while some of the other accounts claim that it was as much as twice that), before being ambushed by the Maikin. Gilgrad, who, to his credit, was a quick thinker, immediately ordered his men to abandon their weapons and bow low before the Maikin. This was "in hopes of securing our own safety". How such an idea could have come to him is a great mystery as most, if not all, Khenochians of that time believed the Maikin to be such savages as to kill a man as quickly as seeing him.
