Chapter 12 - Page 2 of 11

A Ghostly Trio

Shannon walked down the hall and turned into the family room. She sat down on the sofa and debated whether to turn on the television or not. She enjoyed watching mystery shows that were on in the wee hours of the morning and often helped her fall asleep. Before she could turn the TV on she heard a noise behind her. It was faint at first then it began getting louder. It sounded like a person breathing heavily.

The hair on the back of Shannon's neck stood up and she suddenly felt afraid to turn around to see the source of the noise. She didn't have to turn around because the source of the noise suddenly became visible across the room from her. The ghost of the young Mrs. Edmondson could be seen pacing back and forth in front of the bookcase by the window, wringing her hands. She slowly became more visible though she remained a hazy white color.

A loud crashing noise sounded behind Shannon made her leap up from her position on the couch. "What the...."she said out loud. Suddenly, a man Shannon recognized as Mr. Edmondson appeared and ran straight at Mrs. Edmondson. She tried to dodge him but he seemed to know which way she was headed. He caught her around the waist and then grabbed her by the shoulders. Mrs. Edmondson squealed and tried to get away from her attacker. Mr. Edmondson shook her violently making her head bob back and forth until she didn't resist any longer. Shannon could tell he was shouting at Mrs. Edmondson, but she couldn't quite make out what he was saying. It was as if she were watching a movie and someone had pressed the mute button.
