Washington, D. C., Friday & Saturday…

She smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek.

"There, you're not such a dumb cop. That's exactly what I was thinking. I know it sounds paranoid and melodramatic but your wounded leg says we have a right to be paranoid. Come to think of it, it's only paranoia if it's not true." He managed a smile at that, so she knew that he was not completely out of it. "Since I came in from the back door, so to speak, I considered the cloning a corollary to the solution of the transplant rejection problem. Wolfgang wouldn't think that way at all. He would consider cloning itself to be the solution to the transplant rejection problem."

"That's far out," mumbled Chris.

"Oh, I know that he had his head far enough up his ass that he wouldn't see my solution at all. In that sense, I was lightyears ahead of him. He didn't try to find a better solution."

"You really buy into this theory, then?" The cop looked doubtful but the throbbing in his leg was demanding some sort of explanation. He didn't believe in random violence, at least not when the whole front of his apartment was sprayed with bullets. It was time to develop some theories.

"To buy or not to buy is not the question. I'm pretty sure it's what Jay came up with too. She's a wily one."
