Paterson, New Jersey, Wednesday & Thursday…

Representative Eddy Lemoine offered his hand as he stood to welcome her.

"Dr. Kalidas Metropolis, it is a pleasure to meet you. Please, let's sit."

Kalidas sat down in a tall leather wing chair obviously designed to keep a visitor uncomfortable so that his stay would be short. Lemoine sat down at his desk which had very little on it, probably so the visitor could see his reflection in the highly polished wood. What items were there - a small onyx pencil and pen holder, an engraved paper weight with no papers under it, and a picture of a woman - were arranged in impeccable order.

The important man himself was handsomely dressed in the latest business fashion. Immaculate fingernails and white hair that had been to the beauty salon more recently than hers bore witness to the fact that here was a true man of the people.

"Are you affiliated with one of our local community hospitals?" he asked. "I have co-authored several bills to give them more funding, you know."

"Wrong type of doctor. I do research. Bioengineering. I just got fired at Dalton Biomedicine."

"Oh my. How can I help?"

"The excuse they gave was that I am a member of Greek Liberty and therefore a suspected terrorist." She plopped down her resume on top of the beautiful desk, adding some chaos to the order there, and rather enjoying it. "There's no such organization as Greek Liberty, in Greece, or elsewhere. As my resume shows, I have been far too busy trying to solve the transplant rejection problem to bother with such nonsense." Lemoine picked up the resume and began to study it. "In any case, the DHS canceled my clearance, which I need to continue working at Dalton."
