Chapter 9 - Page 1 of 10

Lexington Park, Maryland, Monday…

"We're being followed."

Bouncer almost bit his lip upon hearing that observation. Jay reached over the steering wheel and wiped some whip cream off his moustache. It was the remnants of the two root beer floats he had put down, while she had struggled with one. Oh, but it had been so good!
"Followed? In Lexington Park? Who'd follow me?"

"Who'd brutally murder the sheriff, the coroner, and the forensics expert? Pull in here!"

It was a little neighborhood shopping mall with a drugstore, a pizza shop, and a few other stores. Jay got out and strode purposely towards the entrance to the drugstore, her digital camera in the palm of her hand. As she entered the store the angle was just right to get a picture of the front of the car that had been following them as it swung into a parking place. She bought a diet Coke for appearances, which she couldn't really drink after the root beer float, and left the store.

"What was that all about?" asked Bouncer.

"I've got his portrait, monstro mio. I have a friend in DC who can trace any license plate. I'll call tonight."

"Actually, I could transfer it right now. I've got a direct link to my computers." He pointed to the wires coming out of the side of his head. "New technology. It senses subvocalized commands. It's still pretty experimental but a pal up at Carnegie-Mellon set me up with it."
