Chapter 14 - Page 1 of 8

Boston, Massachusetts, Tuesday…

The next morning, before his shift began, Chris went to visit the coroner. Ka Wah Fong was a wiry old Chinese gentleman with white hair and a raspy voice. He had worked closely with Chris on quite a few cases and the detective had always been impressed with the doctor's competence and ability to explain complicated concepts.

"Doc, any stuff about our John Doe that didn't get into your official report?"

Ka Wah was looking tired that morning. He was getting a little old for the job's long hours but never complained.

"Could be, could be," Ka Wah said with a wink. "Off the record?"

"Off the record," Chris agreed. "Just curiosity."

"Yes, yes, but I believe it's more than curiosity. I heard about your DHS visitor. May they all rot in hell."

"How so?"

"They deported my cousin's daughter a year ago. They accused her of working with the Indonesian Muslims."

"Didn't your cousin try to stop it?"

Ka Wah threw up his hands, a gesture of helplessness.

"What can you do? You're guilty until proven innocent. And we had no proof they were lying. She isn't even Muslim. Anyway, she got an internship back in China. In Beijing. They know the value of doctors trained in America. She'll do fine. Maybe it's all for the best. She found a husband, too. From Shanghai."
