"I don't like the sounds of this. What do you want from me?"
"Your armor. I'll swim right through the dagger darts, and I'll wear armor for protection."
"You can't swim in armor."
"Then, I'll walk. It'll be like scuba diving."
"What's that?"
"Never mind. How far does the river go into the cave?"
"It's about the length of a bow shot""That's not far."
"Twice over. To the first gateway."
"Gateway? What do you mean?"
"You have to understand the system. The whole river is bound by a series of man-made - I mean Huskus made - tunnels, reservoirs, and pumps."
"If I have to understand, you have to explain to me."
"I haven't been inside much," the soldier said. He began stripping off his armor. "What you see here is actually one of his tunnels. The water fills the entire tunnel, and the tunnel opens into a reservoir, I think."
"You think? My life depends on this."
"Let me think," the soldier paused. "The reservoir is in a huge open area. The river flows down the mountain into the reservoir. Huskus can stop the water flow at a number of places."
"Is that the best you can do?"
"I'm sorry. I look at it this way. If you are the chosen one, you'll make it through. If you're not, you'll drown or the dagger darts will eat you. The armor has a few holes in it. What if they're big enough for the dagger darts to come through?" The soldier peeled off his chest armor.
