Begins and Ends with Magic

The water hit the dragons with a boom that sounded like a huge explosion. Jess closed his eyes and waited for the water to hit him. Seconds passed. Nothing happened. The water, after hitting the dragons but not getting through, sought easier terrain and slid off sideways until it found natural hills and gullies. Soon only a few feet of water, barely reaching the dragon's mid thighs remained.

Jess shouted to those near him. "Use the ladders. Climb over the wall where it's safe."

The general exodus of the population took a while, but when all the survivors had fled, the dragons lifted off the ground. The water flowed through the hole in the wall, but did not endanger anyone. When it was finished, the entire city that once belonged to Huskus was a lake, and a new branch of the river flowed from the hill.

Jess, Shelvin, Dainler, and Blonders sat at a table by the river which now flowed completely free. Oglethaine and the other dragons destroyed the concrete that kept the river pinned and let it flow back into its natural channels. Once more, the river watered the entire land.

Jess bit into a squapear. He let the juice spread vitality throughout his body before he spoke, "I don't understand about the dragons."

Shelvin patted his hand. "I know it's hard to absorb all this, but it begins and ends with magic. The dragon was much like the Gillya."
