Chapter 22 - Page 1 of 8

Lost in the Moment

I was at one end of the "aisle" a little over half an hour later, hidden from view of everyone else. It was a beautiful bright day; the wind was blowing gently through the surrounding trees that provided shade over the area. I was glad for that; I didn't want to have to squint. The aisle led to the latticed gazebo intertwined with pink roses. I could see everyone from family to friends in the three rows of chairs to either sides of the aisle. I hadn't seen Tony yet and was really starting to wish I had, just to bring me back down to some sort of reality. He was so good at that. I needed him for that. I stopped at the flower archway, the smell of jasmine hung in the air. I watched Jenna throw the rose petals and I laughed quietly as she ran out before she reached the gazebo. This is it. I stood up, after smoothing out my dress for what felt like the hundredth time I put my arm through Dad's.

"Take your time, sweetie. You look so beautiful, and I'm proud of you."

"Thanks, Dad."

The music started and we walked slowly down the aisle. I was worried that I might trip or stumble, and as I glanced across the sea of faces of friends, family, and coworkers it seemed like a lot of people. I looked down at the rose petals and watched my steps. Glancing back up, I could see Mom crying in the front row. Aw, there's no stopping her now. I looked up ahead at Tony and suddenly none of that mattered; my nervous thoughts disappearing with the wind as I gazed at him. He looked so handsome in his tux. He was following my movements, and looked so serious. I caught his eye and we both broke into a huge smile, his expression softening as he gazed at me. I couldn't remember a time I felt more happy or loved. It doesn't get any better than this. We reached the gazebo and Tony took my hands in his as I took a step up into the gazebo.
