"Sweetheart, are you ready?" Tony said from the living room.
"Almost, just a couple more minutes, babe," I said carefully applying mascara.
It was the night of the charity auction and it was nearly time to go. I just hoped that it all went well tonight. It had been a stressful week of planning, Janet and I had been put in charge of overseeing the event. We'd spent the week making reservations, checking guest lists, getting auction items, hiring caterers, hiring auctioneers, scheduling and giving tasks to the volunteers who would be helping and a few dozen other tasks. It had all come together at the last moment. I hope all our hard work pays off. "Could you get my shoes, honey?" I asked.
"Sure, where are they?"
"By my overnight bag."
I wheeled out of the bathroom and Tony walked in with my sling back heels in hand. His mouth nearly dropped open as he saw me. Auden had designed an evening gown for me: it was a long, flowing, pale yellow silk satin dress. The shoulder straps crisscrossed in the back, which was open and dipped low. There was a dark golden band around the low waist and a lighter yellow band that accentuated the chest. I had put my hair up into a loose bun, leaving curls down and around my face.
"How does it look?" I asked, taking my shoes from him. I put on the right shoe.
