Mona shook her head sadly and walked over to the kids who were still standing stock still on the floor in the middle of the kitchen, gently putting her arms around them both, she guided them to her room off the kitchen. "It‟ll be okay, just a minor disruption." She wasn‟t sure she believed that. She was happy that Karen was strong enough to stand up to what she perceived as injustice, she just wasn‟t sure Karen would be able to hold her ground in a world where injustice prevailed with alarming grace. "Why does she keep doing that?" Annette angrily shrugged Mona‟s consoling arm off her shoulder. She had recovered enough now to be angry. Annette, on the other hand fit right in there, Mona though as she scrutinized the young woman standing by her bed; defiant, petulant, spoiled, not exactly your hometown type. How that had happened was anybodies guess. Bobby collapsed in Mona‟s arms crying, the realization hitting him finally. She held him close, repeating the words from before, believing them just a little more with each repetition. Mona knew Pauline. She knew Pauline would exert every ounce of control possible, because Pauline stood to loose more than face if she lost control of Isaiah. Pauline had seized her chance. Seeing her son‟s talent at an early age, she had wasted no time making it work for her. Mona knew the whole story. She knew all about how Pauline had used the financial success of her son to bankroll a divorce from his father. How she continued to fund her lifestyle through the now grown man who felt obligated to her for his success.
