Chapter 13 - Page 1 of 11

People began filing in early in the afternoon. New friends from school, and, to Bobby‟s great pleasure, many of their famous parents, were soon milling about the patio and pool. They talked loudly and laughed as they sipped on punch and nibbled the hors d‟oeuvres that lined long tables set up alongside the pool. The party was in full swing everyone talking and swimming, laughing and singing along to the loud music that emanated from speakers at all four corners of the court-yard. Another long table filled with pastries sat back against one wall of the house complete with a great, towering waterfall of champagne. "Really, Iz, that‟s not exactly appropriate for an eighteen-year-olds birthday party." Karen walked up to stand beside Isaiah as he dipped a long crystal clear glass underneath the flow for a refill. "I didn‟t do the ordering." He smiled as he drank down the contents of the glass and plunged it back under the flow for more. "There are adults here too. Just wanna have some fun. Wouldn‟t hurt you to loosen up a bit." He winked and held the glass up to her lips, his face a mask of smug self-assuredness as she turned her head away. "Suit yourself. You‟re way too uptight sometimes though." Karen was about to reply when a statuesque woman walked up to Isaiah and planted a kiss on his cheek, accepting a slender glass from him she raised it to her perfectly painted lips and smiled. "Cheers, Isaiah." The sultry, suave woman took a long sip of the cool champagne and then put the still half-full glass on the table beside Karen. "Well, Iz, are you going to introduce me, or am I going to have to guess?" Karen could tell by the look in the woman‟s eyes and the set of her shoulders that her guess would not be kind.
