Chapter 15

School Interfaces

Out of Sight is Not Out of Mind

It is not uncommon for these children to have school problems. We find it's more the norm than an exception. There is a process called an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that can be requested to determine the student's capabilities and sets up goals and objectives for them. Extra resources are put in place and the student should be tracked more closely. These can be repeated annually for comparison purposes.

Copies need to be sent to the foster care agency and the county for their records. The Social Worker may want to attend the meeting.

Letting the Administration know you are a foster parent helps them put things in a different light. From my experiences I have found the schools to be extremely co-operative.

We now have internet communication with the school administration and the teachers.
