Chapter 18

Recreation

Keep Them Busy

Most of these children thrive on television. We try to limit how much TV they watch and try to encourage spending their time on other activities.

We encourage day trips to museums, trips to the beach, artwalks, libraries, plays, etc. We're not so much into board games but some children are, so it's good to keep a variety of them available.

It's always good to have them enroll in sports or after school activities. It often takes shuffling schedules because of required visits, so look for activities that are flexible.

We enrolled the family at the YMCA and found this to be a great solution for everyone. The pool, water therapy, gym, billiard table and various classes gives everyone a choice and it's open 7 days a week. Since we have to be there with them, we take our gym and swim clothes and usually make it an after dinner routine.

After school sports are encouraged, but with scheduled meetings it's difficult for them to commit their time, but they can attend sports and cultural events if there isn't a scheduling conflict.
