The Road to Freedom

We were given a chart on minimum allowance for various age groups. Since their ability to earn money is limited, we do pay for extra chores like window washing, furniture polishing, and cupboard cleaning. It puts their time to good use, gives them a chore and monetary reward.

I encourage them to seek part-time employment, but it is difficult under age 16. They need to acquire a Work Permit and can sign up with Youth Employment Services.

Our boys got a paying offer to work at the local YMCA, but they hesitated. Issues such as transportation, home visits, free time all come into play.
