Target Alaska Fear of Fear

Peter put on his gas mask and checked the grenades in his bag. Inching toward the panel, he looked down at Juliana. Before the men could hit Juliana's face again, Peter pushed the button. The garage doors began to move with a loud grinding. The lights in the front indicated the doors were going to open.

"What is that?" shouted one of the men, as they all turned around and moved toward the garage door, their guns drawn. Peter dropped the first and then the second tear gas grenade right behind the men, and in front of Juliana and Sean, creating a smoke barrier. The gas cloud spread forward and behind, surrounding the men who now began to cough and choke. It also enveloped Sean and Juliana, who were gasping for breath. Big Eagle and his men dropped their guns as they held their hands in front of their mouths and noses in a futile attempt to stop the irritating agent from burning their lungs. Acting on instinct, some men staggered toward the open door and fresh air, while others collapsed to the floor.

Peter ran down the stairs and behind the cloud, quickly cutting the ropes that were holding Sean and Juliana to their chairs. Peter placed the second gas mask on Juliana, who had passed out. Peter offered his mask to Sean and they took turns taking long breaths through the mask. "Can you move?" Peter asked Sean, "We have to get out of here!"
