Chapter 10 - Page 2 of 7

Unable to sleep, Stud lay in bed staring up at the ceiling and thinking about an incident when he started playing little league.

It was his first year of little league and he was learning how to play second base. In only his second game, Terrance, as he was still called, booted a ground ball, letting the other team score a winning run.

When he left the field, his father smacked him across the face so hard that he ended up with a black eye and a bloody nose, as well as a sense of humiliation that he carried with him to this day. He had gotten his father's message loud and clear that day. He was expected to be perfect and nothing less would be acceptable. Stud became the only player on his team not make an error for the rest of the season. Though it stayed with him for life, Stud never spoke of the incident to anyone.

Stud flipped on the light and picked up a stack of comic books that he had sitting on the bedside table.

"Nothing like an X- Man Adventure to help you sleep," he thought to himself.

Eventually he drifted off to sleep with the light still on and clutching his comic book.

The second game against the Cobras didn't go any better for Stud than the first one had. After losing two balls in the lights and hitting into two double plays, Silvers yanked him from the game in favor of Romney.
