Chapter 20 - Page 2 of 5

"Why didn't you take Killarny out"? demanded a reporter at Silvers post game press conference.

"I am limited to the moves I can make right now because I don't have another outfielder," explained Silvers, who was starting to feel like an ech as he answered the same questions over and over again.

"Do the police have any suspects"? asked another reporter.
"Not that I know of, replied Silvers. Right now all I care about is winning a pennant. I'm leaving the police to catch the murderer".

On that note Silvers ended the press conference.

"Good morning," greeted Mandy Silvers as she handed her husband an extra large cup of coffee.

"Morning," replied Silvers giving his wife a kiss as he took the coffee and sat down at the table.

Considering that his team had lost 14-3 the previous night, Jeff Silvers was in an unusually cheerful mood. Usually following a loss he was so grumpy that he made Oscar The Grouch look like Miss Polly Sunshine.

"Why so many newspapers this morning"? asked Jeff curiously as he put some sugar in his coffee.

"Read the headlines and you'll see why," replied Mandy as she poured herself some orange juice.

Jeff's good mood soured faster than milk left unrefrigerated on a hot August day as he began scanning the headlines on the pile of papers.
