Chapter 8 - Page 1 of 2

Awareness

Ever hear that, "The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice"?

Well, in situations of education, for me that statement is the God honest truth.

Feeling a little cynical as you listen to what I say?

Well listen good, for I am from The Hood and I view my education in two ways.

Majority verses Minority is how I'll term my views.

And, as for the best of institutions, I'll take the minority-filled H.B.C.U's.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities,

Home of the "less fortunate" and chopped full of diversity.

I know the things that you've probably heard…and on the surface it does look bad

"Party Central" are the words seemingly synonymous with black college.

However, for all the majority has in state-of-the-art dormitories and labs…

They're totally lacking in providing street knowledge.

I'm not speaking by word of mouth…I know without a doubt,

For I have attended a majority institution.

And, in light of that time spent, I'm so glad that I went to

Central State University for my education solution.

The majority has plenty of money for top-notch materials and equipment.

The minority is where professors care enough to make a personal commitment.

The minority will take you in no matter what processes and classes you've blundered.

The majority is where ALL students are viewed as only a number.

While neither institution hides its other side of social activities and organizations.
