Chapter 17 - Page 2 of 6

Story of a Human Being

"If there was one thing that I learned about life, it was to have a dream and keep on dreaming-" I typed on my old typewriter. "My dream kept me alive during the period of my embarrassment, isolation, and sorrow. I also realized that life is a game. An easy and a thorny game. You could be a winner at the same time a loser. But mostly you are a loser if you don't have strength and confidence in yourself."

I had a brief writer's block and then continued.

"Now I am unsure what else life has left to astonish me… Although, I think I am ready to comprehend. For now, let me pour a glass of wine…" I typed.

All of sudden I lost consciousness. Before my eyes was a shining light as sweat covered my body. I found myself in a bed covered only with white sheets matching this foggy room. I noticed next to me in the bed the shadow of a violin resting under the sheet. Then I heard a woman's voice calling, "Carter, Carter," as if she were crying and lost.

I looked all around this foggy room. I saw a shadow of myself standing by the bed like a ghost watching me as the woman's voice kept crying, "Carter, Carter…"

The white light completely barred me from seeing ahead. I tried to look around again. I watched myself walking toward the white light, which to me resembled the valley of the shadow of death.
