Going Home

"Come on, Kate," said Mona Lisa.

Kate rubbed her eyes. It was late and she didn't want to wake up, even for Mona Lisa. She couldn't believe Mona Lisa wasn't tired. But, she was a painting, after all.

"What is it?" Kate asked Lisa.

"I want to show you something," she said.

Kate was curious. "Okay," She said, and shoved the covers away. She got out of bed, slowly. She still felt like she was sleeping.

They crept downstairs and Kate followed her to the back door, then stopped. "It's a little late to be going out," she told Lisa. The microwave clock near the door was blinking 2 a.m. She couldn't believe that they were both up at this hour.

"Trust me, Kate." Lisa said, as she opened the door.

Kate was confused. This back door didn't lead to her backyard. There was a dirt path going through tall grass, dotted with wildflowers. There was a huge lake on the right and mountains in the distance.

"Kate, this is my painting. It's all right. Nothing will hurt you. This is my world," she grabbed Kate's hand and she came out of the house.

Kate didn't mind following. She just couldn't figure out what was happening. But, for the moment, she decided to let Mona Lisa show her what her world was like.

The dirt path had a lot of twists and there were big rocks all around, which seemed to make the walk longer. But, that was ok. It was sunny and warm and she started picking flowers along the way. "Where are we?" Kate asked Lisa.
