Chapter 9

The Stalacombs, it seemed, were inside the very walls of the city. Clumps of stone jutted out from various angles. In patches, the stone appeared to have taken the form of a dark swirl.

"From here, we can access any room in the entire city," Hennesine informed her three present companions. "Very few people know of them in any sense and of those that do even fewer know how to use them. That's fortunate for us, because a lot of damage could be done should that knowledge fall into hands not ideal. Keep that in mind before speaking of this place."

"The same applies to all of Lunaria, I expect, once we turn to the mainland," Conner concurred.

Hennesine cast him a slight smile but offered no other affirmation.

"I've never seen the sash before so someone will need to help me," Delfina spoke up.

"Like before," Conner observed.

Delfina nodded.

"What do you need me to do?" Hennesine inquired.

Delfina led her through the procedure, which Conner recognized from when they were scrying for Ashlyn.

"The sash is suspended in what looks like a tube of light, atop some sort of cylindrical base," Delfina voiced. "The room is filled with such bases and tubes. Do you know the place?"

"The E.G. Chambers," Hennesine answered.

"Can we get there?" Ashlyn questioned. "Earlier Stelana had me go to this master rogue I knew to see if he knew a way in, and even he had no idea."
