Followers of Light and Chaos

"When?" she asked, not in a nagging tone but rather in a curious one.

"Soon," he promised. "There are still a few things you need to experience first."

She raised her eyebrows.

He smirked and glided down the corridor a ways. When he stopped, he lifted one hand in a come-hither gesture.

"Stay with me," he whispered in her ear once she was near enough. "It's time for another lesson."

Elisa looped her arm in Conner's and started walking. Her clothing was more casual than she normally wore, and a small bag hung from her back. She led him to the northern end of the city, walking with a fast and determined step. Light on foot, he easily kept up.

"Ellie," Conner asked, putting himself in front of her with a few long strides. "What's going on? Has someone seen Ash?"

"Not a soul," Elisa said with frustration. "It's been over a week, and nothing; not a word of her location."

"Then where are we going?" Conner replied with diminished enthusiasm. "I love her too, but we can't just leave the city looking for her; there's an entire world out there to check. We wouldn't know where to begin."

"That's what we're going to find," Elisa declared, "where to begin. We're going to find the city mage, the one that lives in the cliffs. He can scry for her and maybe tell us where to go."

"How are we going to get to him? Either we climb, and risk falling to death on the rocks, or we repel and risk the same fate from a different height."
