Tales of Transformation

The following pages hold personal stories from people who have had their lives transformed thru their experiences of Community Music. Each story expresses a different facet and demonstration of possibilities for us to truly see the world differently when our minds, bodies and spirits are engaged musically. Some of the names have been changed, by request of the contributors. I feel that each story unveils a unique attribute of the Power of the Muse to affect change, heal, support, nourish and unify us.

This first story is a healing that was facilitated through music between a woman and her ex-lover. 

“As my body began to warm I found my mind settling down. The music was captivating me. It was something that I had not tried to dance with before. My body moved in new ways: forms of expression that were new to me. I was hearing the call of spirit. It was telling me to fly, to flap my wings and soar above it all. I started to wave my arms as if they were my wings and felt my spirit above the floor. Then it called again asking me to take the mask off so I gestured my hands along my face sweeping the mask away.

“This revealing movement carried me to new states of being. As this state of transformation took place the perceived source of my pain, a man so beautiful, came to me to play in this realm. It was clear from our connection that he was in this state of openness too and together we began to play. We became like angels soaring through the heavens. Dancing without restriction around the room within each other’s arms. I was no longer the woman who had been previously hurt by this man. I was a woman of great spirit dancing along side another great spirit. Our light beamed off of one another and our love transcended the pain.
