Chapter 3

“I still don’t see why you have to go to all the way to Illinois to work,” David’s mother complained twisting the cloth napkin in her hands and David’s father took his wife’s hand in his. He gave her a kiss on the back of her palm and the worry in her face decreased enormously.

“Frannie, he’s told you already several times why,” his father explained but she still didn’t look convinced.

“It’s just with you leaving New York David, I no longer have any of my children near,” she admitted with a sigh. David took his mother’s other hand and gave it a soft squeeze.

“If you want, I’ll call everyday and give you all the boring details of my life there,” he told her with a smile and she laughed.

“Boring indeed, I’ve never heard of Green River before,” she stated.

“I don’t think anyone has, it has like seven hundred population total,” David replied.

“But Albert Peters has a decent company for him despite the location. He’s a shark when it comes to business and numbers. We went to college together and I swear he has business in his veins,” David’s father told him.

“Well if it’s what makes you happy,” his mother told him then got a sly smile. “Maybe they’ll have some nice single women there. I’m sure none of the men there are as good looking as my Davey,” she told him and David rolled his eyes.
