Chapter 6

The other part of the solution to this challenge is to go APE. In other words, analyze your behaviors. Every day, we receive input from comments, body language and media which we process and generate a reaction. This sounds complicated, but the whole process happens in an instant, several hundred times a day. If you find out that you have certain behavior or emotional patterns that can hold you back from success, it might be helpful to take a step back and change the way you process information as well as changing the way you choose to react to it. Sometimes, these reactions are at a very deep level; one you might have a lot of trouble recognizing and controlling. So you might want to take a few minutes, take a sheet, and just go APE! Let's look at what this means:

A - Action. This includes remarks, body language, physical actions against yourself or your job, anything that triggers a response from you.

P - Perception. This is how you interpret the action. It can be an
emotional response. It could be a verbal response or a misunderstanding. Your
perception gives you an idea of why they are doing this, what their motives might
be. It is important at this point to take a mental step back and consider some of
the reasons why you choose to respond that way.

E - Effect. This is the moment of choice, the moment in which you actually respond to the action. At this point, you have the power to choose what you are going to do. Before responding, it might be a good idea to consider what effect your response might have on your own life, as well as on others. The power is completely in your hands!

Again, the APE process takes place in moments and can move as fast as a monkey swinging from one tree to another. Own your power and control. You can change the world and you might be astonished by what you can do!
