A few months had past and Char thought things were finally improving. She was looking forward to the weekend ahead, as she had made plans with a friend from work to enjoy an evening out for a dinner and movie. Char felt she had earned it, as she was still reasonably sane, even after all that she had been through while living here at the trailer park.
Saturday evening finally came, and she awaited her friend's arrival. When she heard the knock on her door, she was near ready herself. "Perfect timing" Char heard herself say. She went to the door, and there standing was her neighbor, Aggie, in a hospital gown, holding one of her cats, and behind her, was Jade, looking distraught. "I've lost one of my cats", she wailed, to which Jade added, "And I've lost my husband! Have you seen him?" She said, nearly in tears. "No, Aggie, Jade, I'm afraid I can't help either one of you…I'm actually expecting company, so if you'll excuse me.." Char didn't get to finish what she was saying before Aggie, who looked like Chars answer was the final straw, slammed her foot down on Chars front porch and down she went, through the porch, taking Jade with her. Aggie, still holding her cat, was screaming, "My baby My baby!" and Jade, who's baby was still at home unattended, was also screaming, "My baby My baby!" About that time, Chars friend drove up, parked and walked up. Chars eyes rolled back into her head. As was beginning to be a habit, she called 911, reported the accident and waited for the squad to arrive.
The dismay was evident on the faces of the paramedics as they arrived and saw who it was. They called in reinforcements, as Char canceled with her friend and settled in for the evening resigned to a night of never ending madness that she had become so accustomed to since her arrival here. In the few short months she had lived here, she had been through more, struggled more, and seen more then she cared to in a life time. This was it, the last straw. Char made up her mind; she was selling her trailer and moving. Now that she was working fulltime, she could afford a small rent. Her search would begin tomorrow.
As she watched the truck arrive and the chain attached to her porch, she was certain that she was making the right decision……this time.
