Chapter 4

When Char awoke, she was overcome by an odor. She wasn't sure exactly what it was, but she thought it was coming form the general direction of the rental office. "What is that?" She asked herself aloud, "Potatoes? French Fries? At 7am? Hmmmmm, hash browns maybe?" She debated. "It would save me having to make breakfast." She said, and then continued talking to herself. "What shall I wear today?" After taking 3 or 4 outfits out of her closet, she finally decided on a pair of faded blue jeans and a tasteful navy shirt with 3 quarter inch sleeves and her best navy sneakers. After pulling her hair back in a head band, she began her walk to the rental office; where the breakfast was suppose to be served. It was 8am and to her surprise, there didn't appear to be many there yet..

Getting closer now, she saw the sign. "Yard Sale and Community Breakfast?" She questioned aloud. "Well, sure!" Came the reply from behind her. Up came Ambie from the rear with a grocery cart full of....of.....things. "What on earth do you have in there?" Char cautiously asked. Ambie replied..."Oh a little bit of this an da lot of that!" She laughed loudly as though she had just told a joke that only she understood the punch line to. Char followed her new friend over to a vacant table that had a piece of duct tape pressed to the top, clearly bearing Ambie's name. Char asked, "You had the table reserved?" "Yep!" Came the response, "and got right lucky too! This is the best gum position in the sale! Right up front by the mail boxes! I had to get up right early to claim it too!" Ambie proudly announced. "Wow," Char said, "Early? It's only 8am now?" Ambie, acting a bit frustrated that she had to explain, abruptly went on to say, "I came over right after the poker game was over last night and staked my claim! It must have gotten over about 2am or so.." "Oh, Of course, and good thinking!" Char sarcastically said, completely lost on the accomplishment Ambie seemed to believe she had achieved.
