Chapter 7

This couldn't be happening to her. Char was awoken abruptly from her sleep by the worst screaming she had ever heard. Scared out of her wits, she jumped up, and sprang for the window. As she peered outside, she couldn't believe her eyes! There was her neighbor, Dickey, in his pajamas and flight goggles, standing on top of his shed screaming that he was a fighter pilot and that the United States would win the war! "Oh, I had better call Ambie, he looks like he's sleep walking, or climbing…whatever…"

Ambie came right over, garbed in her terrycloth robe and fuzzy slippers. They both just stood there watching Dickey, debating on what should be done. I mean, there was the theory that you should never wake someone who is sleepwalking, but then again, this guy could easily fall off the roof and break his neck! By this time, Dickey was dancing and singing some song about war being hell… "Oh dear, Ambie we really need to decide what to do before he falls and hurts himself." Char said. Ambie agreed and they finally decided that they would call the fire department for no other reason then they didn't know what else to do.

When the fire department arrived, Dickey became really excited, because after all, he was being rescued. He began screaming that he would get his purple heart for being a prisoner of war. He was just sure he had been wounded in the recovery efforts.
