| Biography: | William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) was an English novelist famous for his satires of 19th-century English society. Born in India, Thackeray lived in England from the age of five and attended Trinity College in Cambridge. Although he studied law, he was soon working instead as a journalist and novelist. He is best remembered today for his sprawling social commentary in the novel Vanity Fair (1848). |
