Biography: British novelist and dramatist William Babington Maxwell (1866-1938) was the son of another famous novelist, Mary Elizabeth Braddon. Among Maxwell's plays are a drama, The Last Man In, and a farce, The Naked Truth. Both debuted on stage in 1910. He was a prolific novelist, and most of his works were popular both in Britain and the United States, including titles like The Devil's Garden and Elaine at the Gates.
