| Biography: | Vernon Lee was the pen name used by author Violet Paget (1856-1935). Born in Boulogne, France, Paget also spent a great deal of time in London, and lived in Florence near the end of her life. Her novels feature supernatural themes such as hauntings and possession. Along with friend Henry James, Paget also wrote criticism about the roles of the writer and the audience. She knew Oscar Wilde, as both were students of Walter Pater and the Aesthetic movement, although Paget believed in using aesthetics to further social causes. |
