| Biography: | Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish novelist and poet known for his regional and historical novels. Trained as a lawyer, Scott had turned to writing by 1805 with his first major poem, The Lay of the Last Minstrel. His romances of Scottish life, the so-called Waverly novels, were immensely popular and include Rob Roy (1816) and The Bride of Lammermoor (1819). Scott also penned historical novels, the best-known being Ivanhoe (1820). |
