Biography: Mikhail Petrovich Artsybashev (1878-1927) was a Russian author known for erotic and sometimes violent stories. He published short stories starting in 1895, but became famous after the release of his novel Sanin (or Sanine) in 1903. Controversial for his focus on themes of sex and death, Artsybashev worked outside the literary circles near his homes in Moscow and later, Poland.
