Biography: Best-selling American author Meredith Nicholson was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana in 1866. A self-taught writer, he first worked as a journalist before publishing Short Flights in 1891. His bestsellers include the romantic mystery novel The House of a Thousand Candles (1916). Later in life, Nicholson was active in Democratic party politics and traveled to South America as an envoy.
