Biography: The American Agatha Christie, Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876-1958) inspired the phrase "the butler did it" with her novel The Door (1830), where the butler was guilty as charged. Popular and critically acclaimed, Rinehart wrote short stories, poems, articles and especially, murder mysteries.
