| Biography: | Mark Rutherford is the pseudonym used by English writer William Hale White (1831-1913). Religious questioning was central to his early life, with his family moving to London to join the nonconformist Bunyan Meeting community. White was groomed for the Congregational ministry, but came to doubt the faith, contributing to the loss of faith theme of many of his Victorian novels. |
