Marie Corelli
| Biography: | British novelist Marie Corelli (1855-1924) was born Mary Mackay in London and educated in a Parisian convent before returning to her home country in 1870 to pursue a career as a musician under the name Marie Corelli. She soon turned to writing instead, publishing her first novel, A Romance of Two Worlds, in 1886. Rejected by critics as overly melodramatic, Corelli was immensely popular with the reading public. Her romantic fiction also features mystical topics such as reincarnation and astral projection. |
