Biography: A portraitist in many media, Maria Thompson Daviess (1872-1924) won praise for her photographs as well as her novels and their stage adaptations. Daviess studied art in Nashville, Tennessee, and later traveled to Europe before returning to America to write 13 novels, including the bestselling The Melting of Molly (1912).
