| Biography: | French scholar Joseph Bedier (1864-1938) was a medieval historian and writer credited with reviving interest in French legends such as The Romance of Tristan and Iseult. Bedier was a member of the French Academy for many years, and was also a professor at the College de France. He also put forward an influential theory of the origin of the medieval epic, documented in 4 volumes between 1908 and 1913. |
