Biography: John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir (1875-1940) was a Scottish author and statesman. Politically popular, he was elected to Parliament in 1927, and became governor-general of Canada in 1935. His nonfiction reflected his political interests, including a history of World War I and a biography of Julius Caesar. Buchan's fiction ran the gamut from short stories and poetry to a series of adventure novels with titles like The Thirty-Nine Steps (1915) and The Dancing Floor (1926).
