Biography: Jane Austen was born in 1775 in England and was the seventh child out of eight, six boys and two girls. She grew up in a family that loved to read. She particularly enjoyed the more uninhibited novels of the eighteenth century versus the novels of the Victoria era. She started writing in her teens, both novels and letters, often describing the many parties, social events and encounters with eligible men. She was particularly close to her older sister Cassandra, who, like Jane, never married. Jane died at age 41, reportedly from Addisons disease.
