Biography: Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev (1818-1883) was an important Russian writer, producing novels, plays and short stories. Many of his works focus on the Russian social and political issues of the time, including titles such as his well-known Fathers and Sons (1862) A romantic at heart, Turgenev carried on a life-long love affair with the French singer Pauline Viardot-Garcia. Some of his most famous stories feature romance, including First Love (1850) and The Torrents of Spring (1872).
