Biography: Fantasy author, journalist and poet George Sylvester Viereck (1884-1962) was born in Germany, but came to the united States at 11 years of age. He was politically active, editing the magazine The Fatherland, later called American Monthly, and writing the best-selling Confessions of a Barbarian in 1908. In spite of his stated pro-American stance, Viereck was seen as an early Nazi sympathizer and was imprisoned fromn 1942 to 1947.
