| Biography: | Fergus Hume was an English novelist, born Fergusson Wright Hume in England in 1859. His family later moved to New Zealand where Hume studied law before taking a post in Melbourne Australia. Always a writer at heart, he read the novels of Emile Gaboriau and set out to write his own novel, The Mystery of a Hansom Cab, which was an instant success in 1886. Hume returned to England in 1888 and published over 100 mystery novels. |
