Biography: E.M. Dell (1881-1939) wrote popular romance novels in England at the turn of the century. She started writing as a shy girl growing up in a London suburb, and her early attempts were published in popular magazines. Her first novel, The Way of an Eagle, came out in 1912 and was so successful it required multiple printings over the next three years. Dell is known for placing her traditionally feminine and masculine characters in exotic locations. Dell wrote dozens of novels which were equally loved by her fans and panned by critics.
